Welcome to ‘Beyond the Papers,’ a blog by a transracial adoptee endeavoring to shed light on a perspective often overlooked in adoption narratives—the adoptee’s side. Through these writings, I want to chronicle my quest to unravel my identity as an adult adoptee, while also shine some light into the shadows that often accompany the adoption experience. I aim to show that the journey is not over after the papers have been signed, and the child is now ”yours”.
BeyondThePapers is written from the perspective of an adoptee who was adopted into a Mennonite family. There may be times that I will specifically address mennonite people, however many of the subjects I write about apply to other Adopting families.
